Branson Landing--how will it impact the future of Branson?

I've been hearing a lot lately about Branson landing--How it will beautify the lakefront, increase tourism dollars, and bring more big business to Branson.

In fact, direct from Branson Landing's own website:

Quote:
Branson draws approximately 7.2 million visitors per year.* Projections indicate that Branson Landing will draw approximately 4.5 million visitors per year. This will dramatically increase tourist activity and stimulate growth and add to the appeal of Branson as a leisure destination. Branson Landing Website

If these predictions are true, how will the city accommodate an extra 4.5 million people every year? Is Branson ready for this?

4.5 million more?? And we already have 7.2 million each year? I've always heard from Chamber estimates that we get between 2-3 million each year. Are these guys counting the car wheels or people? Skin_Colorz_PDT_30 Please someone correct me if I'm wrong. That's just what I've always heard.

I believe the landing will help the downtown Branson lakefront be clean and beautiful instead of the eye sore it's always been. I just hope they can accomodate all the increased traffic. Ah, traffic, Branson's eternal arch nemsis.

I was up at Candlestick Inn over the weekend and I was able to look over and see the progress they're making on the Branson Landing. I must say I'm excited for the future it holds. The lakefront was always an eyesore in downtown Branson and this new landing looks like it's going to make it beautiful. I can't wait!

About the other malls... I don't know. I hope there is enough business to go around. I'm sure Tanger will be fine but the Red Roof and Branson Meadows make take the brunt since they're already hurting....

I'd think Branson is not only ready, it's desparate. We had 5 million visitors during the 80s and early 90s when we had no roads and no national chains to speak of. I think the businesses here would be happy to see another 10 million visitors come in during a season.

I agree. Branson has been needing this for a long time--and it's more than ready for it.

I'm excited to see what this Branson Landing will look like. They need something nice downtown. What kind of draw will they expect? An instant influx of people? It will be interesting to see. I just hope that more people means better roads to get around town!

One thing that Branson does not lack for is hotel/motel rooms. After all, compared to the rest of the world Bransn is a cheap place to stay. What Branson does not have is the convention traffic.

Vegas thrives on the huge conventions that constanly draw thousands of new attenders. When we have a facility in Branson that can hold a convention for several thousands if people we will begin to see new traffic. I would like to believe that companies that have a family image would love to be in family friendly environment. But it may take a lot of work to lure them away from Vegas.

But as other posts have mentioned in other places. Prices in Branson are getting out of hand. When I was young my family would travel to Branson and see 1-2 shows each day we were in town. Now we hope to be able to affor 1-2 shows per trip.

I have heard that the theatres say they have to raise their prices because fewer people are seeing the shows. The are seeing less shows because they are so expensive. My theory is lower the price and attract more customers.

Regadless of what shows in NYC and Vegas cost, we are Branson. I hope we keep our family friendly image and do not price the average family out of town. I do not care how good the sho is, there is not a show in Branson that is wort $35 per ticket!

Guess my feelings are more a curiousity than excitement. I'm sure we'll drive down and look it over sometime when we're in Branson, yet having read the list of stores there i'm not sure we'll be doing a lot of buying.

Shopping for clothes and such just isn't something we do a lot of on vacation, our shopping would tend to be more at the craft mall, places like Dickens, and we will go to the Outlet Malls looking for that bargain item we can't live without. Can go shopping at home, other things we'd prefer to do on vacation.

So unless they have other things there to catch the attention besides stores i'm not sure that it'll be an annual yearly thing on our list, and if they haven't got some solution for the traffic getting there it looks even less appealing.

You'll really enjoy Dickens! I go everytime I'm in Branson because they always have new Christmas novelties. I collect Department 56 and they usually have the retired items 50% off which I have never found anywhere else. Plus the store is so huge! I don't think I've ever seen such a large store dedicated just to Christmas items but it's great!

Click on www.bransonlanding.com then click on Leasing, then scroll to bottom and click on "View List of Tenants ... ". A listing of stores and restaurants are listed by category. Looks like it was updated as of Aug 2005. Also lots of other info on the website.

The first part of the project is supposed to be completed this Spring but there is no way that is going to happen. I was down having my car detailed at a place right across from the Landing and he said they are wayyyyyyyyy behind and way over budget. He said the city has been bleeding money. I guess they've been running into unforseen (or unplanned) for issues. I hope they get it taken care of because when it's done it's going to be nice!

I dont understand how a 'Mall" is expected to bring so many new people to Branson.
Every descent sized city has a 'Mall". I think it is highly over rated. It is basically 2 strip malls with overpriced condos in the middle, which you will have to walk around the condos to reach the other 'strip mall.' Maybe if a family is from hicksville and never seen a Mall, they may be impressed. I hardly think people from either coast are going to come to Branson for 'The Landing'.

I just saw it again today and although they've made progress, it looks like there's still a lot of work to take place before any part of it opens. I agree with you oldmanbranson--I don't think it's going to bring many new people to Branson. I will just be a nice addition for those who already come. Not many people are going to come to Branson for the Landing when there are better places in Kansas City, Saint Louis, etc.

Actually Branson landing is only expected to draw about an additional 300,000 or so visitors to Branson. Although it was predicted that about 4.5 million people will visit the Landing, most of them will be drawn from 7.2 million already visiting. This is according the ERA Market analysis posted on the city's web site.

I know that this is an old thread but I thought Id comment on the fact that the Branson Landing has really improved that part of Branson. I know some may miss the nostalgia that downtown Branson used to be before the high end condos and the Hilton were built but I also believe that its improved the quality of the city. It was our first step to modernizing our town; we can still have that country flair while having more technology and classier places to shop. Its a vast improvement over the shabby buildings that used to be down there.
